Leif Davis is optimistic about Ipswich Town’s recent performances, suggesting that the team is beginning to find its rhythm as they navigate an unpredictable Championship season following their relegation from the Premier League. After a shaky spell marked by a defeat to Oxford (2-1) and a lackluster draw against Blackburn (1-1), questions were raised about the team’s direction. However, Ipswich has bounced back impressively with consecutive home victories against Coventry City (3-0) and Stoke City (1-0), positioning themselves fourth in the league.

Reflecting on the team’s recent efforts, Davis noted, “Against Oxford we actually played well in the game, but mistakes happened. Then Blackburn wasn’t good enough at all… We reviewed that game and spoke at the training ground about what we had to do.” The response has been commendable, with the team gaining confidence from their latest wins over strong opponents.

Davis emphasized the importance of the team’s cohesion after these victories, stating, “I think it’s starting to click now. You’ve seen in the last two games the togetherness and the morale… Hopefully we can kick on.” His partnership with winger Jaden Philogene has blossomed, creating a formidable left-sided duo that opponents are beginning to respect. Davis praised Philogene’s athleticism and work ethic, saying, “Jaden’s running stats are incredible. He comes in the next day and doesn’t even feel tired.”

At 25, Davis’s consistency is notable, having started 137 out of a possible 150 league games for Ipswich since joining. He enjoys being on the pitch, expressing, “If I could, I would happily play a game every single day,” though he acknowledged the physical demands of the season. In a humorous remark, he mentioned that he might start practicing more volley shots, after describing a well-taken goal against Oxford off a corner.

Looking ahead, Ipswich is set to face Leicester City, a team that has struggled since their relegation, currently sitting 13th after a recent draw. Davis is aware of the challenges posed by Leicester, recalling previous encounters where Ipswich managed to equalize late in the matches. “We know their threats, they’ll know our threats. We’ve just got to do everything we can to get all three points,” he stated, underscoring the importance of the upcoming fixture in maintaining their upward trajectory in the league.

As Ipswich Town continues to build momentum, the hopeful sentiment within the squad could propel them further in the Championship as they aim to solidify their position in the league and secure a strong finish for the season.
