Ava Heiden, a sophomore at the University of Iowa, has been recognized as the National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association. This accolade comes after she showcased an outstanding performance in three games, leading the Hawkeyes to victories over Nebraska, Purdue, and No. 6 Michigan.

During this impressive stretch, Heiden recorded three double-doubles, averaging 24.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. Notably, she tied her career-high by scoring 27 points against Nebraska while also contributing 11 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Her performance against Purdue was equally remarkable, where she tallied 21 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

In a significant win over No. 6 Michigan, Heiden further solidified her status by achieving her fourth 20-point double-double and her third within the week. Her shooting prowess has placed her fourth in the nation in field goal percentage at 64%, alongside averages of 17.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. This marks the second time this season Heiden has earned the USBWA National Player of the Week honor.

Looking ahead, Heiden and the Hawkeyes will host their regular season home finale against Illinois on Thursday, February 26, at 8 p.m. (CT) in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with the game set to air on BTN and the Hawkeye Radio Network. This matchup presents an exciting opportunity for both Heiden and the Hawkeyes as they aim to continue their successful season.
