Iowa State Stuns Iowa with Last-Second Field Goal in Thrilling Showdown

Iowa State secured a narrow victory against No. 21 Iowa, winning 20-19 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on Saturday. Freshman kicker Kyle Konrardy made a decisive 54-yard field goal with just six seconds remaining to clinch the win.

This victory marks the Cyclones’ third win over the Hawkeyes in the past decade, with all three victories occurring on the road at Kinnick Stadium. Despite the close contest, Iowa held a 13-0 lead at halftime.

The teams exhibited similar possession times, with Iowa State controlling the ball for 30:10 and Iowa for 29:50. Iowa recorded 363 yards of total offense, while Iowa State managed 384 yards, averaging 40.3 and 42.7 yards per punt respectively.

Iowa linebacker Jay Higgins recorded an interception, while Iowa State defensive back Darien Porter achieved two interceptions against the Hawkeyes. Iowa finished with 99 passing yards and 204 rushing yards, compared to Iowa State’s 272 passing yards and 89 rushing yards.

Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson had an impressive performance, averaging 7.5 yards per carry for a total of 187 yards. Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht completed 23 of 36 passes, while Iowa’s Cade McNamara completed 13 of 29 passes.

Looking ahead, Iowa will face the Troy Trojans next Saturday, September 14, at 3:00 p.m. in Iowa City.
