Apple has officially announced its next iteration of iPhone software, known as iOS 26, during the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held on June 9. While a specific release date hasn’t been provided, iPhone users can expect the software update to roll out in mid-September 2025, just in time for the unveiling of the iPhone 17.
The newly branded iOS 26 introduces numerous features designed to enhance the overall iPhone experience. Among them are a revamped lock screen, improved translation capabilities, and an updated aesthetic dubbed “liquid glass.” This design not only offers a modern look with a translucent appearance but also allows for enhanced customization of apps and widgets.
Notable features include a live translation function that enables real-time conversations across phone calls, FaceTime, or text messages with speakers of different languages. Additionally, iMessage will now support the creation of polls within group chats, facilitating easier decision-making among users. AirPods owners will benefit from upgraded recording quality, labeled “studio-quality,” enabling improved call clarity and sound quality for recordings.
Another significant addition is enhanced battery management features. iOS 26 will provide estimates for charging times and introduce an adaptive power mode to optimize battery performance.
The software will be compatible with various iPhone models beginning with the iPhone 11 and includes the latest lineup as well. Devices eligible for the update are:
