The long-awaited Intuit Dome, a cutting-edge basketball arena and concert venue, has officially opened its doors. Located at 3930 W. Century Blvd in Inglewood, this $2 billion facility marks the new home of the L.A. Clippers and kicked off its grand opening on Thursday, August 15, with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring a star-studded red carpet. The event concluded with a performance by Grammy-winning artist Bruno Mars, who was the first act to perform at the venue during the first of two concerts.
Intuit Dome is part of the Hollywood Park sports and entertainment complex, a significant project that commenced in 2021, situated just south of the Kia Forum and SoFi Stadium. The grand opening attracted numerous fans, who experienced this impressive new addition to the Inglewood community.
The evening began with a ceremonial ribbon cutting near the arena’s entrance, where Gillian Zucker, CEO of Halo Sports and Entertainment, expressed her excitement about the realization of this vision. “Intuit Dome is for Clippers fans, it’s for concertgoers, but more than anything, it’s for the entire community,” Zucker stated.
The facility features five basketball courts, an extensive 86,000-square-foot practice and training center, and an innovative “Halo Board”—a two-sided scoreboard equipped with almost an acre of lighting, which covers 38,375 square feet.
This marks the first time the Clippers have had a permanent home other than the Crypto.com Arena, shared with the Lakers since the 1998-99 season. Fans can expect their team to take the floor in the Intuit Dome for the first game on October 23 against the Phoenix Suns.
Clippers owner Steve Ballmer conveyed his enthusiasm during the ceremony, stating, “It’s our home, but we also knew that our house had to be about more than just basketball. I think of this as the best basketball facility ever built.” He highlighted the meticulous attention to detail that went into designing the arena, from the seating to restroom efficiency, hoping that fans appreciate these features during their visits.
Both Zucker and Ballmer underscored the significance of the facility as a community asset. In addition to the Clippers’ 2024-25 season, the Intuit Dome is set to host the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, projected to bring over $350 million in economic benefit to the region, according to city officials.
Mayor James Butts indicated that this is the fourth major venue to open in Inglewood in the past decade, joining SoFi Stadium, Kia Forum, and YouTube Theater. He commented on his gratitude for the development, which continues to enhance the local community.
A striking steel-and-wood sculpture of a clipper ship with basketball hoops, titled “Sails” by local artist Glenn Kaino, stood in the background of the ceremony, showcasing a blend of L.A.’s sports and art culture.
Following the ribbon cutting, Clippers Head Coach Tyronn Lue participated in the traditional celebration of breaking a bottle of champagne, symbolizing good luck for the venue’s inaugural operations.
The night culminated with a three-hour concert by Bruno Mars, a local favorite, followed by a diverse lineup of 31 concerts scheduled at the venue, including performances by Olivia Rodrigo and Peso Pluma. Fans of Mars, excited to experience the new venue, expressed their anticipation for the show and the facility’s offerings. One concertgoer mentioned, “I was freaking out a little bit because it’s so new and I don’t know what to expect, but I’m ready.”
