FIFA announced today that Inter Miami CF has secured a place in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup™ after winning the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, which recognizes them as the top team in the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season. As the host country representative, Inter Miami earned this distinction through an impressive and consistent performance over a 34-match season, clinching the shield with two matches remaining. The team will also serve as the host, playing in the inaugural game of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ in Miami.

Under the captaincy of FIFA World Cup™ champion Lionel Messi, Inter Miami set a new all-time MLS record for the most points in a single season, finishing their 2024 campaign with 74 points—achieved through 22 wins, eight draws, and just four losses from February to October.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino made the announcement during a celebration with fans and team members after Inter Miami’s final regular season match against the New England Revolution at Chase Stadium on Saturday.

“Miami loves football, and Inter Miami has built a strong fan base across Florida and beyond with your exciting style of play,” said Infantino. “Congratulations on this remarkable achievement with the Supporters’ Shield. You have demonstrated that you are the best club in the United States on the pitch.”

Infantino emphasized the team’s status as one of the world’s best clubs, extending his pride in their invitation to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 as the host club representing the United States.

This is a significant moment for our global fan base and our community as we continue to advance fútbol in North America.”

In front of the passionate supporters known as La Familia, Infantino also confirmed that next year’s prestigious tournament will commence in Miami.

“We are excited for you to host the opening match in Miami on Sunday, 15 June 2025,” Infantino said. “It promises to be a grand celebration of global club football, showcasing the best 32 clubs in the world and creating fresh opportunities for clubs, players, coaches, and fans to share their stories with the world.”

With Inter Miami’s participation established, 31 out of the 32 teams scheduled for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 have been confirmed. The final spot will be determined by the outcome of the 2024 CONMEBOL Libertadores final, set for 30 November 2024 in Buenos Aires, ensuring all participating clubs will be announced prior to the draw in December 2024. Four prominent South American clubs are still in contention for a chance to be part of the tournament in the U.S. next year.
