The match began with high intensity, as Maignan was called into action early, saving an attempt from Tzolīs in the 2nd minute. Shortly after, Jutglà’s shot went over the bar. Our response came from Leão, who failed to convert two chances. In the 7th minute, Maignan made another vital save against Tzolīs. Following a corner, Ordóñez struck the crossbar. As we gained momentum, Fofana attempted a shot in the 15th minute that went just wide. Leão continued to create opportunities, and in the 28th minute, he set up Pulisic, but Mignolet intervened successfully. In the 33rd minute, Theo and Leão combined well, yet Ordóñez managed to block Theo’s shot. We then took the lead in the first half from a corner, with Pulisic delivering an exceptional ball that Gabbia failed to connect with, making it 1-0. Just before halftime, we gained a man advantage as Onyedika received a straight red for his tackle on Reijnders.
The second half began with Leão finding Theo, whose shot went high. Club Brugge equalized in the 51st minute when Sabbe scored past Maignan. The response included another attempt from Theo in the 57th minute, though it proved fruitless. Coach Fonseca opted for changes, which quickly paid off as substitute Okafor assisted Reijnders in regaining the lead 2-1.
