Inside the Scandal: The Twist Behind #MomTok’s Drama on Hulu

A new Hulu series titled “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” explores the lives of eight Mormon influencers as they deal with the fallout from a major sex scandal that affected their #MomTok community.

In 2021, as the world was recovering from the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of women known as #MomTok gained immense popularity on social media. They became known for their oversized Stanley cups, matching athleisure outfits, and choreographed dances to catchy pop songs. This seemingly wholesome group of Mormon mothers from Utah faced a dramatic turn of events in 2022 when Taylor Frankie Paul, a prominent figure in #MomTok, revealed that she and her husband were getting a divorce following their involvement in “soft swinging” with other couples in their circle.

The shocking revelation brought intense scrutiny to #MomTok, leading to extensive discussions on Reddit, national media coverage, and allegations of infidelity. Now, some of these influencers are taking their highly publicized drama from online platforms to television.

“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” an eight-episode reality series that premiered on Hulu, chronicles the experiences of these eight influencers as they grapple with the repercussions of the scandal. They navigate the complexities of friendships, work on reshaping their public personas, pursue brand partnerships, and vie for leadership within their group. The series presents a mix of internet culture, faith, and interpersonal drama, reminiscent of “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” meeting “Mean Girls.”
