This weekend, Anant Ambani, son of Reliance Industries CEO Mukesh Ambani, will marry Radhika Merchant, daughter of two millionaire business owners. This wedding is anticipated to be one of the most extravagant and high-profile events in recent years.
Leading up to the big weekend, the couple has already hosted several memorable pre-wedding celebrations. In March, the Ambani family welcomed over a thousand guests to their estate in Jamnagar, India, including notable figures such as Mark Zuckerberg, Hillary Clinton, and Ivanka Trump.
For the occasion, the family built a glass palace inspired by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Palm House and arranged for Rihanna to perform her first full-length concert in nearly a decade. “I wanted to be fun, free, and young,” Merchant told Vogue about the all-night party that followed Rihanna’s performance. “An Indian wedding is incomplete without a lot of dancing.”
In late May, Ambani and Merchant celebrated with another pre-wedding event on the Mediterranean Sea. They hosted 1,200 guests for a four-day cruise starting from Palermo, Italy, with various stops in the region. In Cannes, guests enjoyed a surprise concert by Katy Perry. After departing Cannes, the cruise featured a second concert, this time by Pitbull.
Another stop in Portofino included a performance by renowned opera singer Andrea Bocelli. “It was just the most magical evening,” Merchant told Vogue of Bocelli’s performance. “I had goosebumps.”
Following months of festivities, the actual wedding will be held over three days in Mumbai, India. The couple selected July 12th, 13th, and 14th as their wedding dates after consulting their astrological charts.
While details about the wedding remain closely guarded, the event is expected to be one of the most luxurious weddings in recent history.
