This weekend, Anant Ambani, son of Reliance Industries CEO Mukesh Ambani, will marry Radhika Merchant, daughter of two millionaire business owners, in what is anticipated to be one of the most extravagant and high-profile weddings in recent years.
As their big weekend approaches, the couple has already hosted several attention-grabbing celebrations leading up to their nuptials. In March, the Ambani family invited over a thousand guests to their estate in Jamnagar, India – including notable figures such as Mark Zuckerberg, Hillary Clinton, and Ivanka Trump.
For the occasion, the Ambani family constructed a glass palace inspired by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Palm House and brought in Rihanna for her first full-length concert in nearly a decade.
“I wanted to be fun, free, and young,” Merchant told Vogue about the all-night partying that followed Rihanna’s performance. “An Indian wedding is incomplete without a lot of dancing.”
In late May, Ambani and Merchant hosted another pre-wedding celebration on the Mediterranean Sea. The couple treated 1,200 guests to a four-day cruise starting in Palermo, Italy, with various stops throughout the region. During a stop in Cannes, guests were surprised by a Katy Perry concert, followed by a second concert featuring Pitbull after reboarding the ship.
A stop in Portofino also featured a special performance by the acclaimed opera singer Andrea Bocelli.
“It was just the most magical evening,” Merchant told Vogue about Bocelli’s performance. “I had goosebumps.”
After months of celebrations, the wedding itself will be a three-day event in Mumbai, India. The couple chose July 12th, 13th, and 14th for the festivities after consulting their astrological charts.
While details about the big day are still under wraps, the event is expected to be one of the most lavish weddings held in recent years.
