Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever will sit out Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks due to a left groin injury, the team confirmed. Coach Stephanie White disclosed that she became aware of the injury late Wednesday night, after Clark underwent an MRI.
White indicated that Clark’s condition is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis, depending on her response to treatment. “I think it’s very much a day-to-day thing,” she stated regarding the timeline for Clark’s return.
This setback follows Clark’s prior absence from the team when she was sidelined for five games due to a left quad injury. Since her return, she has made a significant impact on the court, averaging 17.8 points per game, including a remarkable 32-point performance against the New York Liberty. However, she has recently struggled with her shooting, particularly from three-point range, hitting only 1 in her last 23 attempts over the past three games.
Clark’s injury status remains uncertain, particularly whether this latest groin issue is connected to her previous leg problems. Currently, she is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game this season.
Following Thursday’s home game, the Fever will be back in action on Friday night against the Wings in Dallas, where White will assess Clark’s availability. “Certainly, in my mind, it is,” White commented on the tight schedule. She also emphasized Clark’s resilience, noting that she has a reputation for being a quick healer. After the Dallas matchup, the Fever will have a five-day break before facing the Las Vegas Aces.
This situation highlights the unpredictable nature of sports injuries and the importance of player health and recovery. As the Fever navigate the challenges of the season, fans will undoubtedly be hopeful for Clark’s speedy return to the court.
