Injury Woes: Badosa and Kvitova Out of Rome’s Biggest Showdown

Paula Badosa and Petra Kvitova have both withdrawn from the Internazionali BNL d’Italia due to injuries, disrupting their anticipated matchups against Naomi Osaka and Ons Jabeur in the second round.

Badosa, currently ranked No. 9, has been struggling with a persistent back injury throughout 2025, which has affected her performance in several tournaments this year. She previously withdrew from events in Merida, Indian Wells, Miami, and her home tournament in Madrid. Prior to the Madrid event, Badosa acknowledged that her back was “not 100%,” and she had been relying on painkillers to manage the discomfort during her performance this season.

In Kvitova’s case, she had just celebrated her first victory in her return from maternity leave, defeating Irina-Camelia Begu in the opening round, but unfortunately had to step back from the tournament due to a right lower leg injury. As a result, Jabeur automatically advances to the next round, where she is set to face either No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini or another competitor.

This situation highlights the physical challenges athletes often face and the importance of prioritizing health over competition. Fans remain hopeful for a swift recovery for both players, allowing them to return to the court stronger in the future.
