Injury Alert: NC State’s McCall Leaves Game, Freshman QB Steps Up

Tru Edwards made an impressive play for Louisiana Tech, evading several defenders to score on a 71-yard touchdown reception.

In the midst of this action, NC State quarterback Grayson McCall exited the game during the first half of the Wolfpack’s 30-20 victory over Louisiana Tech due to an undisclosed injury and did not return. McCall faced difficulties early in the game, completing 9 of 13 passes for 54 yards. After driving the team to a field goal, he was seen going to the locker room with a towel draped over his head.

Details about the injury were not provided by NC State, and Coach Dave Doeren stated in his post-game comments that he would wait until his weekly press conference on Monday to address McCall’s condition.

Stepping in for McCall was true freshman quarterback CJ Bailey, who led the Wolfpack to their victory with a performance that included 13 completions out of 20 attempts for 156 yards, one interception, and 27 rushing yards with a touchdown.

McCall joined NC State from Coastal Carolina in the offseason, aiming to steer the team towards an ACC championship. However, the season has had a rocky beginning, as the Wolfpack was coming off a significant 51-10 defeat against Tennessee prior to this game.
