The IHG Fiji Hotels group, which includes the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, and Holiday Inn Suva, successfully raised FJ$15,000 through its annual Movember campaign. This significant contribution will support Lifeline Fiji in its efforts to enhance suicide prevention and mental health services across the nation.
The month-long Movember initiative successfully united hotel staff and guests through a variety of engaging activities that sparked meaningful discussions about men’s health and well-being. Participants enjoyed challenges like “Fake Moustaches” and the creative “Reverse Movember Beard-to-Moustache Challenge,” which used humor to promote dialogue and break down stigmas surrounding mental health.
Additionally, guests contributed to the cause by enjoying themed cocktails, spa specials, and desserts, along with participating in the “Cup of Kindness” coffee initiative, all designed to raise funds while emphasizing the importance of men’s health.
Lifeline Fiji played a pivotal role in the campaign, providing essential educational resources and access to its 24-hour crisis line, counseling services, and resilience programs. This collaboration ensured participants received valuable guidance on mental well-being and learned how to seek help.
Lachlan Walker, the Regional General Manager for Fiji and the Pacific at IHG Hotels & Resorts, commended his teams for their dedication to the cause, highlighting how the campaign aligns with the organization’s emphasis on psychological safety and emotional support in the workplace. His comments resonate with IHG’s recent achievement of the Global Great Place to Work® Accreditation for 2025.
Lifeline Fiji’s Director, Jeremaia Merekula, expressed gratitude to the hotels for their steadfast support, noting that initiatives like Movember are crucial for promoting early intervention and diminishing the stigma associated with mental distress. The FJ$15,000 raised will significantly enhance Lifeline Fiji’s crisis response, counseling, and community outreach programs, the success of which is attributable to the generosity of guests and the commitment of hotel staff.
This collaborative effort reflects a growing awareness and dedication to mental health issues, fostering a supportive environment for individuals seeking assistance.
