Iga Świątek’s Grass Court Journey Begins: Will She Conquer Wimbledon?

Iga Świątek, the Polish tennis star, has faced challenges on grass surfaces throughout her career, but she has now begun her journey on this surface with her eyes set on the prestigious Wimbledon tournament. Prior to Wimbledon, she is participating in the WTA tournament in Bad Homburg.

In her opening match, Świątek secured a victory against Victoria Azarenka, winning in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 6-4. Following the match, she expressed satisfaction with her performance, highlighting that early in the game, she felt she was playing well despite not being able to break her opponent.

“I thought I played really well in the early stages and had a chance to break her, but I couldn’t. Maybe I was a bit less engaged, but I wanted to do what I know I can do, and in the end, it was a great match,” she stated on the WTA website.

Despite receiving a bye in the first round, an outcome she found somewhat disappointing because she wants to maximize her time on grass courts, Świątek expressed joy in advancing to the next round. “This was my first match on grass this year. Having a bye in such tournaments isn’t great news since I want to play on grass as much as possible. But I’m really happy that I made it to the next round,” she commented.

Iga Świątek is now set to face Jekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Bad Homburg. The match is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, around 1:30 PM, and will be broadcast live on Canal+ Sport 2.

This tournament could serve as a significant stepping stone for Świątek as she navigates the transition to grass, aiming for further success leading up to Wimbledon.
