As the much-anticipated 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC) draws near, excitement is building in the football town of Ba. The tournament, set to kick off tomorrow at Govind Park’s 4R Stadium, marks the return of the championship after a decade-long hiatus. Fiji Football Association’s chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf, has expressed confidence in the preparations, promising a vibrant atmosphere filled with football festivities.

“We are all set and ready to go, with many tickets sold. We expect a large crowd at the grounds on Tuesday,” Yusuf stated. He assured fans that the opportunity to enjoy football matches during the week is more accessible than ever, thanks to the introduction of special night fixtures. Two matches are scheduled to accommodate working fans, with kick-off times at 6 PM and 8 PM.

Yusuf also highlighted the community’s enthusiasm surrounding the sport, pointing to Ba FC’s recent 90th Anniversary celebration, which attracted hundreds of supporters. “This shows that things are looking promising for football in Ba,” he noted.

For those still seeking tickets, Yusuf advises early arrival to avoid queues. The Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Biman Prasad, will officiate the tournament’s opening at 5 PM, heightening the anticipation. The tournament will commence with Rewa taking on Nadroga at 1:30 PM, followed by pivotal matches, including last year’s champions Labasa facing Nadi at 3:30 PM, Lautoka hosting Suva at 6 PM, and the local team, Ba, competing against Navua at 8 PM.

The IDC’s return to Ba not only revives local football enthusiasm but also embodies a broader commitment to enhancing football infrastructure and community engagement. The decision to host matches under the lights highlights the town’s readiness to embrace high-level competitions, previously made challenging by logistical issues surrounding floodlights.

This year’s IDC is expected to bolster local economy dynamics, benefiting businesses and encouraging community involvement. With organizers focused on delivering an exciting, inclusive experience, the event promises to ignite further interest in football throughout the region. The upcoming matches not only project an exciting display of athleticism but also reinforce Ba’s status as a vibrant hub for football in Fiji.
