The Idaho Vandals have made an impressive 188 three-pointers this season, continuing a remarkable streak of 569 consecutive games with at least one three-point field goal. Under the guidance of Arthur Moreira, Idaho has made history by having the first Brazilian head coach in Division I basketball, marking a significant milestone for the program. Additionally, the Vandals boast the highest number of Brazilian players on any Division I roster, with three contributing athletes.

Idaho’s coaching staff is among the youngest in the NCAA Division I, with an average age of just 32. The team has also witnessed individual milestones, such as Debora Dos Santos surpassing the 1,000-career point plateau, and Hope Hassmann achieving a similar milestone during the season while playing at Weber State.

On Saturday, February 20, at 2 p.m. at ICCU Arena in Moscow, Idaho, the Vandals will face the Sacramento State Hornets in what will be their final regular-season matchup as rivals in the Big Sky Conference. Idaho, with a record of 22 wins and only 5 losses (13-1 in conference play), currently holds first place in the Big Sky. With every game critical to their title aspirations, the Vandals are riding an 11-game winning streak, the program’s longest since the 1984-85 season when they recorded 13 and 15-game winning streaks. This season marks Idaho’s highest win total since 2019-20.

The Vandals have established themselves as the highest-scoring team in the Big Sky, averaging nearly 80 points per game. Notably, four players—Hope Hassmann, Kyra Gardner, Debora Dos Santos, and Ana Pinheiro—are scoring in double digits. In a recent victory over Portland State, six players reached double figures, leading to a 20-point win and a record-breaking 11th home win at ICCU Arena.

On the rebounding front, Idaho ranks among the nation’s best, with Dos Santos averaging nearly eight rebounds per game. As a team, they lead the Big Sky in all major rebounding statistics, consistently appearing in the national top 20 in these categories.

Sacramento State recently rebounded from a four-game losing streak with a victory against Eastern Washington on Thursday. The prior matchup between these two teams was closely contested, with Idaho gaining the upper hand in a 62-55 win in Sacramento.
