Hyundai recall hits nearly 600,000 vehicles, including Palisade and IONIQ models

Hyundai has announced a significant recall involving nearly 600,000 vehicles in the United States, including its well-known Palisade SUV and IONIQ electric models, due to safety concerns. In a statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on September 12, the company detailed the issues prompting these recalls.

The first recall affects 568,580 Hyundai Palisade vehicles, from model years 2020 to 2025. The primary concern is with the seatbelt buckles located in both the front and rear of these vehicles, which may fail to latch appropriately. Although Hyundai estimates that only about 1% of these vehicles are likely affected, the company is taking precautionary measures by issuing a widespread recall. Owners may notice an unusually light “click” when fastening the seatbelt, indicating the potential defect. Affected vehicles can be taken to any Hyundai dealer where the issue will be rectified at no cost. Notifications to owners are scheduled to be sent out by November 10, 2025.

In a separate recall notice, Hyundai flagged a problem with 31,042 of its 2023-2025 IONIQ 6 electric vehicles. The defect involves the charging port door panel, which risks becoming detached. Again, Hyundai believes only about 1% of these models are affected. Repairs will be provided at no charge, and owner notification is also expected by November 10.

Additionally, Hyundai identified an issue with eight units of its 2025 IONIQ 5 models, where improperly tightened fasteners could become loose over time. These vehicles will undergo bolt replacement, wheel alignment, and possibly tire replacement, all free of charge.

Hyundai’s recent recall comes on the heels of a similar action by Toyota, which recalled over 590,000 vehicles. Combined, these recalls affect roughly 1.1 million cars in the U.S., highlighting the automotive industry’s commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

Owners of the affected Hyundai models are encouraged to contact Hyundai’s customer service or the NHTSA hotline for further information and assistance. This proactive approach ensures potential safety hazards are promptly addressed, maintaining Hyundai’s commitment to the safety and trust of its customers.
