Washington football secured a thrilling 27-17 victory over No. 10 Michigan on Saturday night, successfully avenging their national championship defeat to the Wolverines from the previous season.
The Huskies (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) managed to upset the Wolverines (4-2, 2-1) despite surrendering a 14-0 lead and allowing Michigan to score 17 consecutive points in the second and third quarters. However, Washington rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring Michigan 13-0 to clinch their second win in the Big Ten this year.
Quarterback Will Rogers had a solid performance for Washington, completing 21 of 32 passes for 271 yards, with two touchdowns and his first interception of the season. The game took a tense turn early in the fourth quarter when Michigan intercepted Rogers in a tie game, but Washington regained possession shortly after when Wolverines quarterback Jack Tuttle fumbled on a sack.
Tuttle, who stepped in for Michigan’s starting quarterback Alex Orji in the second quarter, showed flashes of capability, completing 10 of 18 passes for 98 yards. However, he faced challenges in the fourth quarter, throwing an interception and fumbling, which Washington capitalized on.
This victory marked a rebound for the Huskies following their narrow 21-18 loss to Rutgers last week, as they aim to sustain their momentum in the conference.
The scoring breakdown from the game shows Michigan trailing in the first and second quarters but rallying briefly before Washington’s comeback. With just over a minute remaining, Grady Gross sealed the win with a field goal, extending the Huskies’ lead to 27-17.
Key moments included Washington defensive back Kamren Fabiculanan’s pivotal interception of Tuttle and a crucial rushing touchdown by Jonah Coleman. The game showcased offensive interplay and strategic defenses, culminating in a vibrant atmosphere at Husky Stadium where Washington fans celebrated the victory.
This win places Washington in a strong position as they continue their Big Ten campaign.
