The UConn Huskies are poised to make their postseason return by accepting an invitation to the third annual Wasabi Fenway Bowl, scheduled for December 28 at the iconic Fenway Park in Boston. The Huskies will face off against the North Carolina Tar Heels from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Kick-off is set for 11:00 AM, and the game will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN and ESPN+.
UConn’s head coach Jim Mora expressed enthusiasm about representing the university at this prominent venue. He emphasized the significance of the opportunity not just for the players but also for the Marching Band, Cheer Squad, students, fans, and the entire UConn community. Coach Mora highlighted Fenway Park’s historic atmosphere, making it an exciting stage to conclude the season.

Under Coach Mora’s leadership, in his third season, the Huskies achieved an impressive 8-4 record this fall — their best regular season since 2010 and marking their first winning season in over a decade. The team turned things around significantly, showcasing a strong home record of 6-1 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium.
Historically, UConn has a mixed record in bowl games, having won three out of seven prior appearances. Mora’s postseason experience includes five bowl games, having previously guided UCLA to postseason appearances during his first four years there.
This will be UConn’s second appearance at Fenway Park; they previously faced Boston College in 2017. The Huskies have encountered North Carolina three times, losing each match-up, with the last meeting occurring in 2009.
On the Tar Heels’ end, they concluded their 2024 season with a 6-6 record and will appear in a bowl game for the sixth consecutive year, marking the second-longest streak in the program’s history. Star running back Omarion Hampton was a standout, finishing the season with 1,660 rushing yards and being named a finalist for the Doak Walker Award.
As the Huskies prepare for this exciting matchup, the community is energized about the team’s performance and the opportunity for a memorable experience at such a prestigious venue. This bowl game not only represents a culmination of their hard work this season but also serves as a celebration for UConn’s growing football program.
