Hurricanes Lock in Future Star with Mega Extension

The Carolina Hurricanes have secured the talent of 22-year-old forward Logan Stankoven with an eight-year contract extension, which includes an average annual value of $6 million. This deal comes as Stankoven entered the final year of his entry-level contract, transitioning to the Canes from Dallas as part of the trade that involved Mikko Rantanen.

Stankoven quickly adapted to his new team, tallying five goals across 19 regular-season games and matching that total with another five goals in 15 playoff appearances. His performance in the postseason contributed to the Hurricanes’ significant run, although they ultimately fell to the Florida Panthers, the eventual Stanley Cup champions, in the Eastern Conference finals.

Eric Tulsky, the general manager of Carolina, expressed enthusiasm over Stankoven’s commitment to the team, stating, “From the moment he arrived in Raleigh, it was clear to us that Logan was a Hurricane. We’re thrilled that he agrees, and is committed to being a big part of this organization long term.”

Stankoven was originally a second-round pick for Dallas back in the 2021 draft, and his exit was a difficult decision for the team. However, it proved essential for Carolina during the Rantanen negotiations.

Last season, Stankoven made his mark in his rookie campaign, amassing experience in 24 regular-season and 19 playoff games for Dallas, and earning a spot in the top 10 for Calder Trophy voting. Standing at 5-foot-8, he has also showcased his skills on the international stage, representing Canada multiple times.

Looking ahead, the Hurricanes are positioned favorably as they enter the upcoming free agency, armed with significant cap space and a track record under Tulsky’s leadership of pursuing strategic acquisitions to enhance the team. Having qualified for the playoffs for seven consecutive years, including three trips to the Eastern Conference finals, the future looks bright for Carolina as they continue to build a competitive roster.

This contract extension reflects both confidence in Stankoven’s abilities and the organization’s commitment to maintaining its status as a playoff contender.
