Hurricane Milton: Will ‘Lt. Dan’ Defy Fate Again?

A man known for his defiant approach during Hurricane Helene continues to stay aboard his boat as Hurricane Milton approaches Florida. During a recent press briefing, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor announced that a local resident, referred to as Lt. Dan, was rescued and safely relocated to a shelter.

“If we can get Lt. Dan to go into a shelter, we can get anybody to do that,” castor remarked. However, moments before the press conference, Lt. Dan was spotted on his boat near Bayshore Blvd., where he mentioned he was preoccupied with conversations about cryptocurrency and was planning to make slight adjustments to the boat’s positioning due to wind changes.

In previous storms, Lt. Dan gained attention after being prominently featured in viral TikTok videos. He infamously responded to Hurricane Helene by stating, “You want me? Come and get me,” as he weathered the storm aboard his vessel.

As Hurricane Milton intensified and approached the state, he reiterated his intention to remain on the boat without a life jacket, claiming a divine message prompted him to stay out at sea. He even jokingly noted in a TikTok post that he had space on board for a companion.

Tampa’s police chief had previously advised Lt. Dan about the ongoing evacuation orders and available shelters as the powerful storm is forecasted to make landfall along Florida’s west coast by late Wednesday or early Thursday morning.
