Humidity on the Rise: Will Smoke Affect Your Wednesday Plans?

An increase in humidity and warm temperatures is expected for Wednesday, with conditions presenting a mix of sunshine and haze in Annapolis and surrounding areas. A southeastern breeze will be noticeable, and residents may observe a vibrant sunrise, albeit with some air quality concerns due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. This smoke has drifted southward, affecting air quality, especially in parts of Pennsylvania, like York and Philadelphia, where it has reached a code orange level, signaling higher pollution levels. In Baltimore, the air quality is currently at a yellow level, which is generally safe for the public, though sensitive individuals, particularly those with preexisting heart or lung conditions, might experience mild effects.

As the day progresses, temperatures are anticipated to rise, peaking around 85 degrees by 4 PM, while hazy skies may persist due to smoke lingering at higher altitudes. A low-pressure system situated in the Carolinas is expected to provide a slight shift in wind patterns, leading to warmer and more humid conditions. However, this system should also help clear some of the smoke by Thursday, resulting in improved air quality.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, a frontal system will approach from the west, raising the likelihood of thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday, particularly later in the day on Friday. This weekend will bring increased humidity, making it feel stickier, with a possibility of thunderstorms and rain. By Sunday, humidity levels are projected to drop again.

For now, Wednesday remains a pleasant day, with temperatures ranging from the 50s to mid-80s, creating an opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities before the arrival of the storms.
