Huma Abedin, former aide to Hillary Clinton, is engaged to Alex Soros, the son of billionaire donor George Soros.
They announced the engagement on Instagram, saying: “This happened… we couldn’t be happier, more grateful, or more in love.” According to Vogue, Soros proposed to Abedin in late May after less than a year of dating.
Abedin, 47, and Soros, 38, are both well-known in political and business circles.
Abedin has worked with Hillary Clinton over many years, including during her time at the White House, Senate, and State Department. She was previously married to Anthony Weiner, the former congressman who went to prison for sexting a minor in 2017, the same year Abedin filed for divorce.
Soros, meanwhile, leads the Open Society Foundations and political action committee, a charitable organization that supports liberal causes. His father, George Soros, is worth an estimated $6.7 billion according to Forbes and has donated over $30 billion to his foundation.
The couple met last fall at a mutual friend’s birthday party and quickly connected over their shared interest in politics and public service, Vogue reported. They have since made several public appearances, including at this year’s Met Gala and a White House state dinner.
Soros will become the stepfather to Abedin’s son from her previous marriage. No wedding date has been announced yet.
