MILAN — The Olympic dream became a reality for the Hughes family on Thursday as brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes made their historic debut together for Team USA in men’s hockey. They each contributed two assists in a remarkable 5-1 victory against Team Latvia in the preliminary round of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, held at the Santagiulia Arena.

Adding to this family affair, their mother, Ellen Weinberg-Hughes, is actively involved with the women’s team as a player development consultant, bringing an additional layer of pride to the Hughes family’s Olympic experience.

The Hughes brothers are set to return to the ice on Saturday, facing Team Denmark at Santagiulia Arena at 3:10 p.m. ET, with fans eagerly anticipating their performance (broadcast available on Peacock, USA, ICI Télé, CBC Gem, TSN).

Jack expressed the significance of this moment, stating, “The best part for me is being here with Quinn. We’re lucky that we get to share our first Olympics with our mom, too. Who gets to say that? It’s pretty special.”

This achievement feels even more poignant for the brothers, especially after the disappointment of last season when they were unable to compete together at the 4 Nations Face-Off due to Quinn’s oblique injury. Ultimately, the U.S. fell to Canada in overtime in the championship game, a contest that could have turned out differently with Quinn’s presence and skill. Known for winning the Norris Trophy in the 2023-24 season as the NHL’s best defenseman, Quinn is hoped to significantly impact the current tournament.

The journey of the Hughes family is a testament to resilience, dedication, and the power of teamwork, making their Olympic experience truly unforgettable.
