Joey Chestnut triumphed over Takeru Kobayashi in a hot dog-eating contest hosted by Netflix in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday.
The two renowned competitive eaters went head-to-head in a 10-minute challenge on Labor Day, with Chestnut devouring 83 hot dogs and buns, surpassing his previous world record of 76 set in 2021. Kobayashi followed with a total of 66 hot dogs consumed.
Entitled “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef,” the live event was held at the HyperX Arena at the Luxor and was co-hosted by actor Rob Riggle and former WWE star Nikki Garcia, streaming live on Netflix.
The competition’s regulations prohibited the dunking or pouring of water on the hot dogs and buns, as well as separating them. Participants had 30 seconds to finish any remaining food after the 10-minute timer concluded.
Chestnut walked away with a $100,000 grand prize and a custom championship belt created by WWE, which was awarded to him by professional wrestler Rey Mysterio.
This marked the first competition between Chestnut and Kobayashi since 2009, when Chestnut also came out on top. Although Kobayashi announced his retirement earlier this year, he made a comeback to challenge Chestnut for the special event.
Chestnut is a 16-time champion of the renowned Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest held in Coney Island, while Kobayashi has won it six times. Their rivalry began when Chestnut first defeated Kobayashi in 2007, leading to a competitive era in the mid-2000s.
