Actresses Julie Benz and Busy Philipps, along with actor Ron Perlman and Jim Rash, are set to star in the upcoming horror-comedy film “Horrified.” The narrative follows Benz, who portrays a struggling scream queen. She returns to the horror convention circuit in hopes of quick cash, only to discover that a pig-masked murderer from her past franchise is out for revenge, utilizing her cult status to turn friends and fans against her. This forces her to face longstanding fears in a gory showdown.
The movie marks the directorial debut of Michael Zara, who has experience as a writer on the TNT series “Major Crimes.” Filming for “Horrified” is scheduled to begin this summer. The production is being undertaken by Randy Wayne and Talia Bella through their company Rebellium Films, alongside Zara’s Ghost Bunni production, in collaboration with charity Art of Elysium, EB Studios, and producer Daniel Hall.
Zara has expressed excitement for the project, stating, “The idea for Horrified came to me over twelve years ago while I was attending a Midwest horror convention, so finally seeing it become a reality with a killer cast and producing team is truly thrilling.”
The film will also leverage talents like cinematographer Adam Biddle and casting directors Helen Geier and Kendra Shay Clark.
This project adds to the horror-comedy genre, which has seen a resurgence in popular culture, blending humor with thrilling elements, and could potentially attract both horror aficionados and fans of the cast.
Overall, the collaboration between talented actors and a creative director promises an engaging ride for audiences, blending nostalgia with fresh comedic horror.
