After recent heavy rainfall led to significant flooding, a resident of Dreke Village has reiterated the urgent necessity for a permanent bridge to prevent the community from becoming isolated. Melania Rakanace Tadrau shared her concerns with The Fiji Times, detailing a distressing situation that occurred on Wednesday when elderly villagers waded through rising waters to ensure the safety of children.
Ms. Tadrau emphasized that the absence of a bridge has been a longstanding problem, affecting the village for decades. “The village urgently needs a bridge to allow safe access, especially during heavy rainfall. Whenever it rains, the water level rises very quickly, cutting off the only access route to the village. There is no alternative road or crossing available,” she explained.
