Honda Issues Major Recall Over Brake Pedal Defect – Are You Affected?

Honda Motor is recalling over 259,000 vehicles in the United States due to a potential brake pedal defect, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The issue, identified as a poorly secured pin, can cause the brake pedal to shift out of position, making it difficult for drivers to stop their vehicles effectively, which raises the risk of crashes and injuries.

The recall affects several models, including the Honda Acura MDX from 2023 to 2025, the Acura TLX from 2021 to 2025, and the Pilot models from 2023 to 2025. While there have been three reported warranty claims related to this defect, Honda confirms that there have been no injuries or fatalities connected to the issue thus far.

Honda estimates that about 1% of the recalled vehicles may have the defect. Owners of the affected models are advised to visit their local Honda dealership for a free inspection and any necessary repairs. The company plans to notify all affected vehicle owners via mail, with notifications set to be sent out starting July 28.

The problem originated during production at a U.S. plant, which has since closed and relocated its operations to Mexico. In response to this defect, Honda has implemented new safety measures, including the use of camera sensors to ensure the secure placement of brake pedal pins.

In April 2024, Honda initiated an investigation after a report of a vehicle experiencing brake pedal movement. The investigation confirmed the existence of the defect on June 5, leading to the decision to proceed with the recall.

This proactive step demonstrates Honda’s commitment to safety and its prompt response to potential safety issues affecting its customers. Vehicle owners are encouraged to stay informed and take action to ensure their vehicles are safe to drive.
