WINTER PARK, Fla. — On Wednesday, a vibrant celebration took place on Park Avenue in Winter Park, as hundreds gathered to honor the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. This year’s celebration is particularly special, marking the first time since 2005 that Hanukkah and Christmas fall on the same day.

Organized by the Chabad of Greater Orlando, this event commemorates the 25th anniversary of such celebrations in the area. Attendees like Jacquie Berger expressed their joy, noting, “It’s just a wonderful celebration for everyone that Jewish people are celebrating Hanukkah and the Christian people are celebrating Christmas.”

The evening featured a variety of festivities, including live music, face painting, a dog show, and the evening’s highlight: the grand lighting of the menorah. Rabbi Dovid Dubov emphasized the importance of Hanukkah’s message, explaining that the holiday symbolizes the potential of a small flame to dispel darkness. He asserted that this message of spreading light and goodness is relevant to both the Jewish community and beyond.

Rabbi Dubov, who has been with Chabad of Greater Orlando for five years, described this festival as one of their largest events, open to everyone and meaningful for all. He pointed out the rarity of the Hanukkah and Christmas overlap, noting that such a coincidence will not occur again until 2035.

Hanukkah, which lasts for eight nights, will continue until January 2, providing plenty of opportunities for celebration and connection among communities.

This event serves not only as a celebration of faith but also as a reminder of unity and goodwill, encouraging people to embrace kindness and spread joy during this festive season.

Overall, the celebration reflects an uplifting spirit, blending traditions and fostering community ties, reminding everyone that love and light can triumph in times of darkness.
