On November 12, 2025, a significant fire incident devastated a residence in Taci Village, Noco, Rewa, causing extensive damage to a family home owned by Ms. Kesaia Talemaitoga. The family’s two-bedroom house was completely engulfed in flames after a neighbor, Mr. Luke, alerted emergency services at approximately 4:24 PM. A crew from the Nausori Fire Station promptly arrived at the scene around 4:50 PM, with villagers initially trying to control the fire using buckets of water.
Firefighters quickly took over, utilizing water from their truck to douse the flames, successfully extinguishing the fire by 4:57 PM. Unfortunately, the house was uninsured, leading to damage estimated at around $40,000, although no injuries were reported and nearby properties were spared from harm.
NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane expressed deep sympathy for the Talemaitoga family and highlighted the increasing necessity for fire safety awareness, especially with the festive season approaching. He urged homeowners to prioritize essential safety practices during this busy time, including checking electrical appliances, switching off stoves and power sources when not in use, keeping flammable materials secure, and storing matches and lighters out of children’s reach.
This incident reflects a troubling trend identified by the National Fire Authority, which has documented a surge in residential fires nationwide. Previous reports indicate similar incidents have incurred property losses exceeding $150,000, prompting stronger calls for homeowner vigilance.
