The National Fire Authority (NFA) has reported a devastating fire incident that occurred on November 12, 2025, in Taci Village, Noco, Rewa, resulting in severe damage to a family residence. The two-bedroom home, owned by Ms. Kesaia Talemaitoga and her family, became fully engulfed in flames after firefighters received an emergency call around 4:24 PM from Mr. Luke, a concerned neighbor. The Nausori Fire Station dispatched a crew to the scene, arriving shortly after at 4:50 PM. Villagers initially attempted to combat the fire with buckets of water before the trained firefighters took over.
Firefighters quickly contained the flames using water from their truck’s tank, and by 4:57 PM, the fire was extinguished. Unfortunately, the home was not insured and sustained nearly complete destruction, with damages estimated at around $40,000. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and adjacent properties remained unaffected.
NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane expressed his deep concern for the Talemaitoga family and emphasized the critical need for heightened fire safety awareness, especially as the festive season approaches. Sowane urged homeowners to adopt essential safety practices, particularly during periods of increased cooking and celebrations. He reminded the public to check their electrical appliances, switch off stoves and power sources when not in use, secure flammable materials, and ensure that matches and lighters are out of reach of children.
