Hoda Kotb has announced her departure from TODAY, set to happen early next year, although she will continue to be part of the NBC family.

During an emotional segment on TODAY on September 26, Hoda shared how her celebration of turning 60 in August prompted her to reflect on her life choices. “I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60, and to try something new,” she said, recalling a moment when she felt at the peak of her career. “This is what the top of the wave feels like for me,’ and I thought it can’t get better, and I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on.”

Hoda expressed her desire to spend more time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, as a significant reason for her decision. “Obviously I had my kiddos late in life, and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have,” she explained emotionally, recognizing the finite nature of time.

Despite her impending departure, Hoda reassured viewers that she will remain with TODAY until early next year and will take on an unspecified role within NBC. “It’s kind of a big deal for me,” she admitted, wiping away tears.

Having been a cornerstone of NBC News for nearly 30 years, Hoda has held various roles, including her work on “Dateline” and co-hosting the fourth hour of TODAY alongside Kathie Lee Gifford and Jenna Bush Hager. She has co-anchored TODAY with Savannah Guthrie for over five years.

Savannah expressed her love and pride for Hoda during the announcement. “We love you so much… You are so loved. We don’t want to imagine this place without you,” Savannah said, acknowledging the mixed emotions surrounding Hoda’s departure. “You have guts… You inspire me.”

The emotional farewell continued as other members of the TODAY family shared heartfelt messages. Jenna Bush Hager humorously promised to stay close, while Sheinelle Jones praised Hoda’s influence as a dynamic mom and her dedication to wellness. “You are going to change the world,” Sheinelle said.

Al Roker, a longtime friend, also reflected on their bond, saying, “I’ve known you forever, and I love you.” Craig Melvin highlighted Hoda’s authenticity, noting that she remains genuine both on and off the camera.

Hoda took a moment to reflect on her connections with both on-screen colleagues and behind-the-scenes staff, acknowledging the TODAY fans who have supported her through the years. She shared a letter to the TODAY staff outlining her decision to step down, emphasizing her gratitude and the lasting memories she cherishes.
