Hoda Kotb Bids Farewell to TODAY: What’s Next for the Beloved Anchor?

Hoda Kotb has announced her departure from TODAY, set for early next year, while confirming that she will stay within the NBC family.

Emotional during her announcement on September 26, Hoda explained her decision was influenced by turning 60 and a desire to explore new opportunities. She recalled a memorable moment from her birthday celebration where she felt on top of the world, leading her to conclude that it was the right time for a change.

Hoda emphasized her wish to spend more time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, underscoring the importance of family. “I had my kiddos late in life, and they deserve a bigger piece of my time,” she expressed.

Though this decision was challenging for her, she reassured viewers that she would continue with the TODAY show until early next year and would take on an unspecified role within NBC.

Having been a significant presence at NBC News for nearly 30 years, Hoda has co-anchored TODAY alongside Savannah Guthrie for over five years. Savannah expressed her heartfelt emotions during the announcement, stating, “We love you so much… You have so much guts. You inspire me.”

The TODAY team shared their own emotional tributes as well. Jenna Bush Hager joked about her intent to remain close, while Sheinelle Jones acknowledged the dynamic relationship Hoda has with everyone on set.

Al Roker, a longtime friend, conveyed his admiration and affection, stating, “I’ve never known anybody like you,” while Craig Melvin praised Hoda’s authenticity and heartfelt nature.

Reflecting on her time at TODAY, Hoda cherished the relationships she formed with both her colleagues and the show’s viewers. She also shared a letter detailing her decision with the TODAY staff.
