GLASGOW: In a historic and thrilling match, the Netherlands triumphed over Nepal in a Twenty20 International tri-series match in Glasgow on Monday, utilizing a record-breaking three Super Overs. This unprecedented event marked the first occurrence of a triple Super Over in T20 or limited-overs cricket.
The match saw the Dutch team initially score 152 runs for the loss of seven wickets, setting a challenging target for Nepal. As the match approached its conclusion, Nepal needed 16 runs from the final over. Nandan Yadav’s remarkable boundary on the last ball pushed the game into a Super Over.
During the first Super Over, Nepal managed to score 19 runs, which the Dutch matched dramatically, with Max O’Dowd hitting a six on the final ball to level the scores, leading to a second Super Over, only the second instance of its kind in men’s international cricket, following the match between India and Afghanistan last year.
In the second Super Over, the Netherlands batted first, scoring 17 runs. Nepal tried to match this total, with Dipendra Singh Airee hitting another six on the last ball, which resulted in the rare continuation into a third Super Over.
The final Super Over was a more subdued affair as Nepal failed to register a run. The Dutch side only needed one run to secure victory, which Michael Levitt achieved effortlessly by hitting a six.
Following this match, the Netherlands, having previously lost to Scotland, will take a break on Tuesday, whereas Nepal will face Scotland again shortly.
This match not only highlighted the spirit of competition but also underscored the excitement surrounding limited-overs cricket, offering fans an unforgettable experience that will be remembered for years to come.
