Congress will convene on Monday to officially certify President-elect Donald Trump’s victory for the 2024 presidential election. This date marks exactly four years after a tumultuous incident when a mob attempted to disrupt the certification process of his 2020 election loss. This time, however, the certification is anticipated to proceed with significantly less turmoil.

The upcoming inauguration is scheduled for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which falls on January 20, 2025. This is an established federal holiday dedicated to celebrating the civil rights leader’s contributions to equality and justice.

Inauguration Day occurs every four years on January 20, or January 21 if the 20th falls on a Sunday. For 2025, the ceremony will take place on a Monday at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to begin around noon ET.

During the inauguration, both the vice president-elect and president-elect take their oaths of office, reaffirming their commitment to uphold the Constitution. The vice president-elect will take an oath that has been in use since 1884, pledging to defend the Constitution and faithfully discharge their duties. The president-elect will follow with an oath to execute the Office of President to the best of their ability and uphold the Constitution.

The inauguration is organized by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) and includes several key events: the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural address, and the pass in review.

For those interested in attending the event, the JCCIC offers a limited number of tickets to the public through congressional representatives. These tickets are complimentary and provide entry to witness the historic swearing-in ceremony in person at the Capitol on January 20, 2025. Requests for tickets can be made to members of Congress in the weeks leading up to the inauguration.

This momentous occasion not only signifies a new beginning in U.S. leadership but also highlights the continued importance of civic engagement and participation in the democratic process. It serves as a reminder of the resilience of democracy and the peaceful transfer of power, standing in stark contrast to the events surrounding the previous election.
