Fiji has strengthened its diplomatic ties with Israel as Mr. Jesoni Vitusagavulu was officially appointed as the first Ambassador to the State of Israel. On February 3, 2026, he presented his credentials to President Isaac Herzog during a ceremony held at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.

Ambassador Vitusagavulu extended warm greetings from Fiji’s President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, and the Fijian people, highlighting the significance of his role. He expressed pride in representing Fiji at its inaugural Embassy in Jerusalem, which opened in September 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the relationship between Fiji and Israel.

President Herzog welcomed the ambassador and praised Fiji for establishing a permanent diplomatic presence in Jerusalem. He emphasized the deepening socio-economic, cultural, and historic connections between the two nations. In a noteworthy reciprocal gesture, Israel has committed to opening its own resident diplomatic mission in Fiji later this year.

This mutual establishment of resident missions underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance their bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation, particularly in the broader Indo-Pacific region. The strengthening of ties between Fiji and Israel not only signifies diplomatic progress but also reflects a shared vision for collaboration in various fields moving forward.
