The Judiciary of Fiji has made a significant announcement that the Fiji Court of Appeal will hold its November 2025 session in Ba, marking a historic first as the court moves outside the capital, Suva. Scheduled from November 3 to 14, this unprecedented decision is being celebrated as a vital step toward bringing justice closer to the community.
Chief Registrar Tomasi Bainivalu emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance accessibility to judicial services throughout the country. “This is an effort to increase access to justice and to send the message that the courts of Fiji are for all the people, not just for those who live in Suva,” he noted.
During the upcoming session, the Court of Appeal will be led by President Isikeli Mataitoga, supported by a distinguished panel that includes senior Justices of Appeal from Fiji and three others from Australia and New Zealand. This full quorum signifies the commitment to uphold the highest standards of judicial integrity and efficiency.

The Judiciary’s strategy to decentralize its services aligns with the recent inauguration of the new $29 million Ba Court complex. This state-of-the-art facility will significantly enhance access to justice for residents not only in Ba but also in surrounding regions such as Ra, Tavua, and Rakiraki. The establishment of a High Court within the complex is particularly noteworthy, as it will allow local litigants to handle their High Court matters without the need for lengthy travel to Lautoka.
