Fatman Scoop has died at the age of 53, as confirmed by his tour manager on Saturday.
Earlier reports indicated that the hip-hop legend experienced a medical emergency and collapsed on stage during a concert in Hamden, Connecticut. Witnesses described the rapper and radio personality fainting behind the DJ booth around 8:30 p.m. Friday night. Attendees quickly rushed to help, performing CPR as the music stopped, with footage showing life-saving measures being taken.
Hamden’s mayor, Lauren Garrett, acknowledged that a “medical emergency” had occurred at Hamden Town Center Park. Fatman Scoop was transported to a hospital, but details about his condition remained unclear at the time.
Garrett stated, “We will provide updates when they are available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”
Fatman Scoop, born Isaac Freeman II, was known for his powerful voice featured in hits like Missy Elliott’s Grammy-winning track “Lose Control,” Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That,” and his iconic 1999 club hit “Be Faithful” featuring Crooklyn Clan. He collaborated with numerous artists, including Ying Yang Twins, Rihanna, Kat DeLuna, Chingy, David Guetta, LL Cool J, Timbaland & Magoo, Ciara, Skrillex, and DJ Kool.
Rapper Juicy J shared his support on social media, stating, “Prayers up for fatman scoop!” Raheem Palmer, a host for Ringer, reflected on Fatman Scoop’s profound impact, saying, “I can’t even remember attending a party growing up without hearing a Fatman Scoop x Crooklyn Clan Party Break. He had the ability to not only give hit records more energy & make them better but he made them HIS.” Palmer went on to emphasize, “Life is so short.”
