The Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa has taken a significant step toward supporting the local community and environment by committing to the maintenance of the Nadi Cemetery on Enamanu Road. This initiative is part of Hilton’s broader “Travel with Purpose” strategy, which emphasizes sustainability and meaningful community engagement.
On September 19, in honor of World Clean Up Day, 24 employees from the resort dedicated two hours to cleaning the cemetery. Their efforts included removing rubbish, mowing, trimming the overgrown vegetation, managing weeds, and applying insecticide. As a result, 15 bags of waste were collected, substantially improving the site’s appearance and respectability.
This clean-up is the beginning of a collaborative effort between Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa and the Nadi Town Council, with the resort committing to the continuous upkeep of the cemetery. The project is led by the resort’s Blue Energy Committee, which orchestrates various sustainability and community-focused initiatives across the islands.
Carey Osborne, Cluster General Manager of Hilton Fiji, stressed that the initiative is a long-term commitment. “It’s about ensuring that Fiji remains clean and beautiful. By adopting the Nadi Cemetery, we’re safeguarding a place of cultural and historical importance for the community, while demonstrating our long-term commitment to sustainability,” Osborne explained.
Hilton’s “Travel with Purpose” program reflects the company’s global dedication to responsible tourism, focusing on sustainability, cultural preservation, and positive contributions to communities. This commitment is in line with similar environmental efforts in the region, such as beach and foreshore clean-ups by the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa and the Radisson Blu Resort.
Through its sustained efforts in community service and environmental stewardship, Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa not only benefits the local community but also sets a benchmark for corporate responsibility and sustainable practices in the tourism industry. These actions provide a hopeful outlook for the future, where hotels and resorts play an active role in preserving the cultural and natural heritage of their locations, to the benefit of both current residents and future generations.
