Hilton Fiji Leads Community Cleanup to Protect Cultural Heritage

Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa has embarked on a significant community-focused initiative by adopting the Nadi Cemetery for ongoing maintenance in partnership with the Nadi Town Council. This initiative launched on World Clean Up Day, involving 24 Hilton staff members who dedicated efforts to restore the site. Their work included collecting 15 bags of rubbish, cutting grass, removing weeds, and applying pest control measures to rejuvenate the area.

Cluster General Manager Carey Osborne emphasized that the project extends beyond a single-day effort, signifying Hilton’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the preservation of a site of cultural and historic significance for the local community. This endeavor is part of the Hilton Fiji’s Blue Energy Committee initiatives, which focus on sustainability and community development.

The Nadi Cemetery project exemplifies Hilton’s broader goal within its global “Travel with Purpose” program, which emphasizes responsible tourism, cultural preservation, and environmental care. This initiative aligns with similar efforts by other resorts in Fiji, such as the cleanup of Natadola Beach by InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, which reinforced the importance of community involvement in environmental preservation.

Through these concerted efforts, Hilton and other hospitality companies in Fiji are leading the charge in fostering tourism that respects and nurtures the local environment. Such initiatives signal a collective commitment within the tourism sector to not only provide exceptional experiences for visitors but also to ensure the preservation and appreciation of the natural and cultural treasures of Fiji.

This dedication is mirrored in other efforts within Fiji’s tourism sector, as seen with Radisson Blu Resort’s environmental initiatives and staff-engagement programs that support local communities and promote sustainable practices. These actions contribute significantly to building awareness and encouraging a sense of responsibility towards maintaining Fiji’s pristine conditions, ensuring a sustainable future for both residents and tourists.

By embracing projects that involve direct community engagement and environmental care, the tourism industry in Fiji continues to demonstrate how concerted efforts in corporate social responsibility can lead to a positive and meaningful impact on local communities and the environment.
