David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn, and Gregory A. Hall of McCarter & English have officially joined the case representing Sunrun Installation Services in an ongoing civil rights lawsuit. This legal action was initiated on September 4 in the Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins. The lawsuit stems from an incident where Steins was arrested and charged for employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson.
The crux of the complaint asserts that Sunrun failed to notify the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that Steins’ employment had ended in 2017, along with the revocation of his home improvement contractor license. Steins argues that had Sunrun provided this notification, he would not have faced the charges, which were ultimately dismissed in May 2024.
The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer and is recorded under case number 3:24-cv-01423, titled Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
This legal proceeding highlights the importance of clear communication between employers and regulatory bodies, particularly in regards to employee licensing and compliance. It serves as a reminder for companies to ensure that all necessary notifications are made in a timely manner to avoid potential legal repercussions for former employees. It is hopeful that this case may bring about changes in policy that could protect other employees in similar situations in the future.
