A 37-year-old man from Milwaukee, who had been reported missing and was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant, was arrested in Dodge County on May 15. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was notified by a license plate recognition camera around 2:30 p.m. that the suspect’s vehicle had been detected in the vicinity of Lomira.
Within a quarter of an hour, a sheriff’s lieutenant located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver refused to stop, leading to a slow-speed pursuit that lasted approximately two miles along Interstate 41. Notably, the vehicle was traveling at speeds significantly below the legal limit during the chase.
Interestingly, the driver called 911 during the pursuit, indicating that he was heading to a gas station. He ultimately arrived at a gas station in Lomira, where he surrendered to law enforcement officials.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office plans to forward charges for failing to stop for law enforcement to the District Attorney’s Office. Assistance during the pursuit came from the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident underscores the law enforcement community’s ability to utilize modern technology, such as license plate recognition systems, to enhance public safety and respond quickly to potential threats.
