The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Supervisory Commission announced on the evening of May 29 that Bi Jingquan, a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and deputy director of its Economic Committee, is under investigation for serious disciplinary and legal violations.
Bi, born in September 1955 in Qian’an, Heilongjiang Province, has had a long career in public service since joining the workforce in February 1982 and becoming a member of the Communist Party of China in March 1978. He holds a graduate degree from the Central Party School and an MBA from Peking University’s China Economic Research Center.
His career highlights include serving as the deputy director and secretary-general of the National Development and Reform Commission, as well as a vice secretary-general of the State Council. Notably, in 2015, he became the director and party secretary of the National Food and Drug Administration, and in 2018, he took on the role of party secretary and deputy director of the State Administration for Market Regulation. However, he resigned later that year due to the issue surrounding problematic vaccines from Changchun Changsheng Biotechnology in Jilin.
This investigation into Bi Jingquan reflects ongoing efforts by the Chinese government to enforce accountability and integrity among its officials. The CCDI has been actively pursuing cases of corruption and violations of party discipline, aiming to strengthen governance and rebuild public trust. The framework set in recent years to tackle such issues continues to shape a rigorous environment for governmental conduct.
As authorities investigate further, it is hoped that such measures will lead to greater transparency and integrity within the political system.
