Higgs Aims for Breakthrough at Myrtle Beach Classic

Harry Higgs is currently tied for the lead at the Oneflight Myrtle Beach Classic following a strong performance in the second round, where he shot a score of 66. This marks a significant opportunity for Higgs, as securing a victory would not only grant him his first PGA Tour title but also a potential spot in the upcoming PGA Championship.

Despite having faced challenges this season, Higgs is optimistic about his game improvement. He expressed confidence in his physical training and believes he might eventually reach his goal of dunking a basketball, a humorous bet with his trainer. “I am of the belief that I and anybody, you can train yourself to do anything,” Higgs stated, acknowledging the effort he’s put into building strength in order to enhance his golfing performance. At 33 years old, he recognizes that developing the ability to dunk may take some years of dedicated training.

Winning the Myrtle Beach Classic holds significant meaning for Higgs, as it would provide him with a two-year PGA Tour exemption. Additionally, if he wins and is not already qualified, he could secure a spot in the prestigious PGA Championship. This past season has been a tough one for Higgs, as he missed seven cuts in twelve outings since returning to the PGA Tour after finishing in the top 30 on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2024.

Higgs has reflected on his previous performances and his ongoing struggles, acknowledging the difficulty of not having yet lifted a Tour trophy after 133 starts. Despite these challenges, he feels his game is finally at a turning point. “Eventually, it was going to not be garbage. I hope it’s this week, and if not, I think I’m really going to start playing some good golf, hopefully for a little longer,” he commented, expressing hope for future success.

As the weekend approaches, all eyes will be on Higgs and his fellow co-leader, Danny Walker, both seeking their breakthrough moments in the competition. The excitement of the tournament and Higgs’ determination adds an inspiring element to this week’s PGA Tour event.
