Hernández’s Return: Key Boost for Dodgers Ahead of Crucial Series

Teoscar Hernández, the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder, has begun a minor league rehab assignment with the Low-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, participating in four innings in right field against Inland Empire. This marks his first game action since suffering a left groin strain on May 5.

In his debut game, Hernández finished 0-for-1 at the plate, but managed to draw two walks and recorded a strikeout. Following a first-inning walk, he demonstrated good base-running by advancing from first to third on a single to right field and later scored on a wild pitch that bounced into the visitors’ dugout. He also walked in the second inning.

Hernández had the opportunity to face another major league pitcher, Robert Stephenson, in the fourth inning, but struck out. The Dodgers plan to activate him on Monday for the series opener against the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium, although it is uncertain if he will play a second game for the Quakes on Sunday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that if Hernández participates in Sunday’s game, he might occupy the designated hitter position due to the day game. Prior to this game, Hernández has been engaged in live batting practice, facing various pitchers, including Emmet Sheehan and prospect Maddux Bruns, and he, along with fellow injured regular Tommy Edman, has been actively running and participating in pregame drills over the past week.

Having missed 12 games while on the injured list, Hernández’s return is anticipated as he is key to the Dodgers’ lineup.

Overall, Hernández’s progress is promising and could bring a much-needed boost to the Dodgers as they head into a crucial series. His anticipated return adds hope for fans yearning for a strong finish in the season.
