Pedro Ivan Grijalva Soto, a 26-year-old from Hermosillo, has captured the essence of Michael Jackson through his YouTube channel, Voice Of Pop. This channel is the only one in the city dedicated solely to exploring the life and legacy of the iconic pop artist.
Pedro’s fascination with Michael Jackson began after his death, when he delved into his music, history, and achievements. His admiration extends across various artistic disciplines, including cinematography, performing arts, music, photography, and drawing, areas where he has been inspired and combined his skills. After studying Graphic Design at the University of Sonora, Pedro decided to focus his channel on what he knows and loves most: Michael Jackson.
The main goal of Voice Of Pop is to provide a documentary-style perspective on the artist, exploring his life from a more human angle.
“Above all, my vision was to talk about Michael Jackson from a more human perspective, trying to understand his story well, not just discussing the artist or the man who broke all the records but speaking from the viewpoint of what he lived and felt,” Pedro explained.
The channel has opened various opportunities for Pedro. He traveled to Los Angeles to visit iconic places such as Jackson’s star on the Walk of Fame and Forest Lawn cemetery, where the singer is buried. During his visit to Forest Lawn, Pedro brought letters from his subscribers around the world, including from Argentina, Spain, Peru, Colombia, Italy, and the United States, placing them at the site in a symbolic act of global connection to Jackson’s legacy.
In December 2023, Pedro had the privilege of meeting Don Boyette, Michael Jackson’s bassist, and Darryl Phinnessee, the artist’s backup singer. He also had the chance to meet twice with Jackson’s brothers, known as The Jackson Five. His admiration for the dancer goes beyond music; he highlights the reinvention of styles and the modernization of movements that continue to be replicated. For this reason, he was the editor for the 245th edition of Vía Activa, where he offered a tribute show to Michael Jackson.
Pedro has also noticed a growing interest in Michael Jackson in Hermosillo, thanks to his content.
“What I hope for the years to come, with what I’ve been doing with my channel and the fan community in this region, is to grow, whether through events, dance, or making the people here in Hermosillo or Sonora aware of the content I create on my platforms,” Pedro remarked.
