Herbert’s Injury Woes Resurface in Chargers’ Tough Loss

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert exited the field early during the team’s 20-10 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday after he seemed to reinjure the high-ankle sprain that had kept him out of practice leading up to the game.

Herbert did not play in the fourth quarter as the Chargers (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season, while Pittsburgh (3-0) remained undefeated, led by quarterback Justin Fields.

During his time on the field, Herbert completed 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Johnson that marked the opening score of the game. Unfortunately for the Chargers, this was the highlight of their offensive performance, as they only managed a field goal before halftime and failed to score again. The rushing attack was similarly ineffective, with the team totaling just 61 yards on 20 carries.

Midway through the third quarter, Herbert limped off the field after being sacked, appearing to aggravate the right ankle injury he sustained in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers, where he had described being rolled up on.

Herbert left the stadium wearing a walking boot.

Following the loss, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh indicated to reporters that there was a plan in place to take Herbert out of the game if he exhibited any signs of a limp.
