Herbert’s Injury Woes: Chargers Stumble Against Undefeated Steelers

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert exited the team’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday due to a potential re-injury of his high-ankle sprain, which had caused him to miss practice leading up to the match. The Chargers faced their first loss of the season, falling to the Steelers with a score of 20-10, while Pittsburgh maintained its undefeated record at 3-0 with quarterback Justin Fields at the helm.

Herbert had a solid start, completing 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown pass to Quentin Johnson that gave the Chargers an early lead. However, the team’s offense struggled thereafter, only managing a field goal just before halftime and failing to score for the remainder of the game. The rushing attack contributed minimally as well, totaling just 61 yards on 20 attempts.

The injury occurred midway through the third quarter when Herbert took one of two sacks. He appeared to reinjure his right ankle, which was affected during a victory against the Carolina Panthers in Week 2. Following the game, he was seen leaving the stadium in a walking boot.

After the game, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh informed the media that the team had prepared to bench Herbert if he showed any signs of a limp during the matchup.
