Henry’s Touchdown Debut: A Glimpse of Ravens’ Future?

Derrick Henry made his debut for the Baltimore Ravens by scoring the first touchdown of the 2024 NFL season during the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Henry, a two-time rushing champion, joined the Ravens this offseason after spending eight years with the Tennessee Titans. He scored on a five-yard run during the opening drive of the game.

The Ravens’ initial drive was impressive, lasting 11 plays and covering 70 yards. Henry was central to the effort, carrying the ball five times for a total of 17 rushing yards. He ended the game with 13 carries for 46 yards and that crucial touchdown. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson also contributed significantly, leading the team with 122 rushing yards on 16 carries.

The game showcased a promising future for the Ravens’ offense, suggesting that Henry will be a key player this season alongside Jackson. However, the Ravens were unable to secure a victory, with the Chiefs winning 27-20 in a nail-biting finish.

The Ravens initially faced challenges on their opening drive, receiving three illegal formation penalties, but were able to push through and score despite those setbacks. Kansas City quickly answered with a scoring drive of their own, highlighted by a 21-yard touchdown run from rookie Xavier Worthy in his first NFL play.

The Chiefs took a 13-10 lead into halftime and maintained their advantage, as the Ravens’ last attempt to tie the game fell short when a potential touchdown catch by Isaiah Likely was ruled out of bounds.
